Dr. Ivan L. Williams, Sr. was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Oakwood College, in Huntsville, Alabama, with an Associate of Science degree in Communications in 1985 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology in 1986.
In 1988 he graduated from Andrews University, in Berrien Springs, Michigan, with a Masters of Divinity and from Commissioned Officer Training School USAF in 1996. In 2002, Williams graduated from Squadron Officer School Air University in Residence and from Claremont School of Theology, in Claremont, California with a Doctor of Ministry degree. His dissertation dealt with pastoral burnout and renewal in Seventh-day Adventist ministry.
Currently, Dr. Williams serves as the senior pastor of the Capitol City SDA Church in Sacramento, California. He serves as a Chaplain for the California State Assembly, and as a Chaplain (Major) for the 149th California Air National Guard Rescue Wing. He is president of Brighter Hope Ministries, Inc. and can be heard on many radio stations around the country.
His pastoral ministry spans over twenty years, and has included churches such as Northeast SDA Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, First Ridgeland and Beaufort Temple SDA Churches in South Carolina, Kansas Avenue SDA Church in Riverside, California, Juniper Avenue SDA Church in Fontana, California, and Maranatha SDA Church in San Diego, California. Dr. Williams serves on numerous boards like the Sacramento Urban League and the Pacific Union Conference Executive Committee of Seventh-day Adventists.
His awards and achievements include: Certified Prepare and Enrich Marital Counselor; evangelist/founder of a new church, Beaufort Temple SDA Church in Beaufort, South Carolina; Pastor of the Year Award in Southeastern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists; writer of lyrics and songs; author of Keep the Flame Burning in Your Ministry; television host of Brighter Hope on RCC-TV Sacramento, California. Dr. Williams has also traveled and spoken throughout North America and in many parts of the world.
Dr. Williams enjoys radio broadcasting, reading, preaching, barbering, basketball, golfing, swimming, family time, giving people hope and teaching them to live a balanced Christian life. He is married to Kathleen Scott Williams, and they are the proud parents of their daughter, Imani, and their son, Ivan, II.
